Our liver is a very important organ in our body and produces bile for the digestion of food, stores vitamins and minerals that our bodies need for use at a later time, and even produces proteins and carbohydrates used in the body. It helps us metabolize medications for use in the body as well. Therefore it is essential that we protect this important organ in our body. One great way to do that is by eating the right foods to protect our liver and avoiding the wrong foods that could harm our liver. Let us explore what these foods are.

First, what foods are not healthy for our liver. Processed meats, soda and soft drinks, full fat dairy products, red meat, and foods that are high in saturated fat, trans-fat, and simple sugars. This means that it is many of the foods that we eat every day. Foods that we like and are easy, however, eating them excessively can have a negative effect on our liver. In addition, excessive alcohol use has a negative effect on our liver.

What are some good foods to eat for our liver? Grapefruit, blueberries, grapes, beetroot, broccoli, cabbage, kale, and cauliflower are good fruits and vegetables for our liver. In addition, nuts, fatty fish, and olive oil are good options. And to drink, coffee and tea are both good for our liver, which is great because most of us enjoy at least one of these every day.

It is important to keep in mind that any food we eat is ok if it is eaten in moderation, but some food should be eaten less than others, for example, sweets are a food that we should eat in minimal amounts to protect all of our body systems. Eating in a balanced way will most certainly have a good effect on our liver as well.
